The memorials

Remembering every generation of service

Honor Park includes two principal memorial groupings: the Logan County Veterans Monument and a memorial to Logan County veterans killed in action.

01

Logan County Veterans Monument

Three granite monuments commemorate service across American conflicts. The center stone features an eagle, flags, and military service emblems. The flanking stones list conflicts ranging from the Revolutionary War through the Persian Gulf era.

Established through the efforts of the Pisces Garden Club and the Guthrie community, the original monument was installed in 1992.

02

Memorial to those killed in action

A black granite Honor Park wall records the names of Logan County veterans who were killed in action. Nearby, a bronze battlefield-cross-style memorial—with inverted rifles, bayonets, and helmets—stands on a granite base.

The additional memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day 2009.

A message of remembrance
“No greater love hath man than he who lays down his life for a friend.”

The story of Honor Park

Built by a community determined to remember

The park grew from a local fundraising effort into a place where generations of Logan County residents can honor veterans and reflect on their service.

  1. 1991

    A memorial is envisioned

In August, members of the Pisces Garden Club began raising funds for a Logan County veterans memorial. The original site was planned at Veterans Park, near Mineral Wells Park.

  2. 1992

A new location—and an unforgettable dedication

After a property-ownership issue prevented installation at the first site, the corner of Harrison Avenue and Second Street was selected. The original monument was installed and dedicated on Veterans Day, November 11, 1992.

Heavy rain moved the dedication indoors to the Blue Bell Saloon, while members of the 5th U.S. Cavalry sounded Taps outside. The original effort raised approximately $30,000.

  3. 1993–1995

    Making a memorial park

An Honor Park Committee formed in 1993. By 1995, improvements included landscaping, pathways, benches, lighting, fencing, trees, and shrubs, supported by community contributions and commemorative brick sales.

  4. 2009

    Honoring Logan County's fallen

A dedicated memorial recognizing Logan County service members killed in action was dedicated on Memorial Day, adding a solemn new element to the park.
